For the Bureau of Land Management, Information Concepts led the effort to define the data for a Geographic Information System, ALMRS. The system maintains the geocoded information for land, resources and minerals managed by the US government. This Geographic Information System project enabled distributed connectivity between single user workstations and mainframes supporting hundreds of users.
Aspens Systems Corporation hired Information Concepts to design and implement an online survey system to collect information about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The survey questionnaire is accessible through a Web site, and includes screens to lead users through the entry of information.
Information Concepts implemented a baseline architecture for the Department of Justice Sentinel Project. Several BizTalk orchestrations were developed to handle the transfer of data between 6 disparate systems. This Case Management system integrated off the shelf Case Management systems with Siebel’s CRM and third party intelligence gathering products.
Information Concepts developed a case management system to assist the Compliance Division of the US State Department in tracking and streamlining compliance workflow. The system assists the Compliance Division in tracking paper flow, identifying individuals and companies for further investigation, matching individuals and companies across multiple, disparate State Department applications, and managing and preparing cases for prosecution. Cases managed by this system allow the group to support its mission to protect the United States from the unauthorized sale, distribution and transfer of United States military technology.
Information Concepts developed a proof of concept web site for SDDC. This internet application provides service members of all branches of the military an online interface to create and schedule a move from one duty station to another based on their orders. The proof of concept was meant to showcase not only the interface of this application, but also an entire SOA architecture designed to allow for frequent and complex changes in business rules and to be replicated for use in future similar applications.
Information Concepts was contracted by Sytel to assist them in the development of an admissions system for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) National Emergency Training Center (NETC) in Emmitsburg, MD. Information Concepts managed the implementation of the core Admissions system modules based on existing requirements. As part of the student module, a web application was also developed to enable students to apply for courses online and to check the status of their applications. In addition, Information Concepts wrote the requirements for and implemented the Classroom Management and Special Programs modules of the system. The Classroom Management module includes automatically assigning classrooms to courses. It also enables admissions staff to manually select a classroom for a course. The Special Programs module enables admissions staff to track the progress of students enrolled in specialized programs.
Information Concepts migrated a legacy, ASP-Based application to the .Net technology platform for the INTERPOL U.S. office. This system is used world-wide to manage personnel, documents, and statuses of case investigations. The application was migrated to improve usability, performance and to allow future upgrades in the future.
Information Concepts developed a case management system for 6,000 IRS examiners. This system allows examiners to go into the field and perform an examination in a disconnected environment. IRS forms on the laptop, developed with InfoPath, resemble the paper forms the examiners have used for years. When connectivity is available, examiners can connect the laptops with HQ, upload new information on the case while downloading work from other team members and managers. This application, developed in 14 weeks, was designed to reduce the time necessary for an examination by 50%.
Information Concepts developed an e-learning course for the IRS to train its users on the Issue Management System, a case management system for 6,000 IRS examiners, used to go into the field and perform an examination in a disconnected environment. Information Concepts’ team created media-rich flash videos that interpreted the course material into an interactive, engaging format. The courses were authored using Captivate course authoring software, and then distributed to users on a CD. The course content was accredited by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) and allowed users to obtain credits towards maintaining their CPA/CPE status. In addition, the courseware was 508 compliant.
The IRS deployed a significantly updated version of its Issue Management System, a case management system for 6,000 IRS examiners, used to go into the field and perform an examination in a disconnected environment. Information Concepts developed the e-learning course to train the IRS users on the new system. The e-learning course trained users on all aspects of the system. Courses were developed and authored using EEDO ForceTen Learning Content Management System. Once completed, courseware was loaded into Plateau, a Learning Management System that tracks course completion and the user’s training. The development technology is in compliance with the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) and the courseware is section 508 compliant. The course content is accredited by NASBA and allows users to obtain credits towards maintaining their CPA/CPE status.
Information Concepts developed the E-Tips system for the Criminal Investigation (CI) division for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). This Smart Client Application allows IRS Field Agents to manage their cases in a disconnected environment, managing the flow of the detailed case-related information. Off-line synchronization of forms and other information was used to coordinate with other Team Members and Managers.
Information Concepts developed the IRS Notebook desktop application for the Small Business/Self-Employed (SB/SE) BOD, Excise Tax Division of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The Notebook Application provides Excise Tax Revenue Agents with a compiled library of Forms. This library includes the forms used by the Excise tax in the audit process, with the forms associated with activity codes. Revenue Agents will have the ability from within Notebook to enter common fields associated with the audit (such as Taxpayer and Examiner information). Based on a user’s request a custom directory of Forms will be created for the audit, and be pre-populated with the common fields collected. The pre-population of common fields is designed to reduce the data entry required by Revenue Agents. The Notebook application also deploys the custom directory of Forms into a logical directory structure on a Revenue Agent’s workstation. This logical directory structure makes it easy for Revenue Agents to upload the forms into the IMS system. Notebook was developed in Microsoft Access using VBA and SQL.
Information Concepts developed a custom authentication scheme for CMS 2001 that enabled the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) to provide Naval Reserve units the ability to author and manage their own content, without giving the users access to content created by other units. The Naval Reserve has approximately 3,000 Command Centers, all of which require the ability to edit and author content within their own section of the site. The number of authors and editors is in the thousands. There are approximately 150,000 Sharepoint portal users in the Active Directory for portal access alone, making the number of potential users subscribing to the site in the hundreds of thousands. CMS authentication is handled using CMS users/groups inside a particular CMS role. Those users are coupled with Active Directory users/groups or local NT user/groups.
Information Concepts partnered with Microsoft Consulting Services to provide a proof of concept (POC) for the US Department of Veteran Affairs on implementing BizTalk 2006 with the HIPAA Accelerator in their environment to address a real business issue. The business issue was to demonstrate a way to replace expensive and hard-to-maintain SAS jobs with a solution that was cheaper and easier to build and maintain. The result of the POC was the ability to successfully Install and configure BizTalk 2006 and the HIPAA Accelerator in a VA test environment, demonstrating that validation of incoming data can be handled inside the BizTalk solution, as opposed to a third party validation program.
Information Concepts worked with the VA to implement HIS to bridge IBM VSAM files to the .Net Platform. The VA has 120 legacy programs which extract data from the Production VSAM files which manage the VA’s Financial Systems. These programs eventually download the data to a Windows Server for the data to be loaded into SQL Server for reporting. The HIS Implementation allows the VA to move the data directly from VSAM to SQL Server for Batch Transfers without the need for mainframe experience.
Information Concepts managed the development of a database system for the U.S. Navy. The application is used to manage information on the maintenance and condition of Navy planes. The project required the migration of data from a mainframe to an Oracle database. Information Concepts was responsible for executing business and data analysis, working with users to develop requirements, and writing the project scope and documentation.
Information Concepts implemented a web-based application for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The application was designed to allow for US approved patents to be submitted as international patent applications. The application submitted patent applications using BizTalk Server to manage workflow.
Information Concepts worked on multiple intelligence-sensitive projects for the Targeting Analysis Systems Program Office (TASPO). Responsibilities included developing custom applications, displaying intelligence data, and a complete customization of SharePoint 2007 to extend the SharePoint user interface. Information Concepts also integrated different intelligence analysis tools and creating a centralized environment for analysts to collaborate on intelligence reports more efficiently.
