Solutions That Fit Success Stories

AFL-CIO - COPE

Information Concepts developed COPE, the reporting system used by the AFL-CIO to both track the dissemination of information about political issues, campaigns, and registration to members, and generate standard and ad-hoc membership reports. Reengineered from a legacy Unisys mainframe, COPE is a client/server system consisting of Windows clients. It employs user-friendly front-end queries, written in Visual Basic, to lead users through the creation of a query and report, and then dynamically generates reports. The system includes a foundation query builder, which was developed using Visual Basic.

APWU - Transfers

Information Concepts developed a Transfers Web site for the American Postal Workers Union (APWU).  The Web site allows APWU members to sign on, request a job transfer, and select transfer locations.  The application then tracks the formal process through which workers are hired by and transferred to various post offices.  The project required the development of a database of APWU members, an online survey accessible through the Internet, and an Internet-based application to be used by the U.S. Postal Service to track the hiring process.

APWU - Grievance Tracking System

Information Concepts developed the Step 3 Grievance Tracking System for the American Postal Workers Union (APWU). The system provides a means for APWU staff to manage the over 300,000 regional-level grievances filed yearly against the United States Postal Service by APWU members and monitor the dispute resolution process. The grievances arrive at APWU as letters which are then scanned into the system.

The grievances and their associated data records are tracked as they move through the Step 3 system. The system allows as many as 200 users in field offices to concurrently enter and update information and generate reports. It is Web-based, uses a central SQL Server 7 database, runs on a Windows NT platform, and uses GUIs running under Internet Information Server and Active Server Pages.

IAMAW - Accounting System

Information Concepts developed an accounting system used by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW). This international union has over 1,300 locals, which they call lodges.  Information Concepts developed a lodge-level accounting system to track transactions and provide Centralized audit and reporting to comply with IRS 990 filing regulations.

IBEW - Membership System

Information Concepts reengineered the mainframe-based Membership System used by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) to a windows platform.  The effort involved the development of production programs to support functions including update of a membership database, benefits management, and validation processing, as well as the development of user interfaces for major subsystems of the application.

IUOE - Web Portal

Information Concepts worked with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) to conduct a complete revamping of their main public Web Portal, iuoe.org. Beyond updating the look and feel of the site, Information Concepts developed the new site so that it runs off of DotNetNuke, an open source web application framework that offers ideal interaction with Microsoft .NET technology. By developing the new site with this technology, Information Concepts was able to develop a “Members-Only” area that integrates with IUOE’s TMA Association Management System. Also, by using DNN, IUOE obtained full control over the sites content, allowing them updating information easily.
