SPAWARInformation Concepts developed a custom authentication scheme for CMS 2001 that enabled the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) to provide Naval Reserve units the ability to author and manage their own content, without giving the users access to content created by other units. The Naval Reserve has approximately 3,000 Command Centers, all of which require the ability to edit and author content within their own section of the site. The number of authors and editors is in the thousands. There are approximately 150,000 SharePoint portal users in the Active Directory for portal access alone, making the number of potential users subscribing to the site in the hundreds of thousands. CMS authentication is handled using CMS users/groups inside a particular CMS role. Those users are coupled with Active Directory users/groups or local NT user/groups.
